About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is seeking a personable, energetic Lifeguard to help keep participants safe and create a positive, enriching experience in a recreational pool setting. The Lifeguard actively surveils the pool, follows emergency procedures, provides safety instruction, checks equipment and pool conditions, and keeps accurate records. The role also includes participating in required training and in-service events. Pay starts at up to $16.48 per hour, depending on experience. The typical schedule is 10–40 hours per week or less, depending on availability. The posting describes this as a part-time position.

Requirements

• Be at least 15 years of age.
• Hold a current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Obtain Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearances.
• Complete YUSA New Employee Orientation, Mandated Reporter training, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure participant safety.
• Build positive relationships with members and participants and help provide an enriching experience.
• Review emergency procedures and respond using the “safe-in-six” model.
• Act as a role model for youth.
• Give participants appropriate safety instruction around the pool.
• Perform equipment checks and chemical testing as required, and check the pool for hazardous conditions.
• Keep records accurate and up to date, and report to a supervisor.
• Attend and participate in required training and in-service events.
