About The Position

We’re looking for a reliable and safety-focused Lifeguard to join our team and support daily pool operations in a structured childcare environment. This is more than just watching the pool, you’ll play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging experience for children while working closely with teachers and staff.

Requirements

  • Current Lifeguard Certification required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Must meet all licensing and regulatory requirements established by the Virginia Department of Education
  • Strong observation and situational awareness skills with the ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and engage groups of children in an aquatic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage behavior using positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate techniques.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance in a role critical to program operations.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive under pressure.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in a structured or educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision of children during all aquatic activities, ensuring safety, enforcing pool rules, and maintaining constant visual awareness.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies by recognizing distress, administering first aid/CPR as needed, and following established emergency action and reporting procedures.
  • Support children’s development by promoting water confidence, reinforcing positive behavior, and adapting interactions to meet individual needs.
  • Communicate expectations to teachers and assist in coordinating smooth transitions during swim sessions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model when interacting with children, staff, and families.
  • Support classroom staff when needed, including assisting with supervision outside of the pool environment.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, address concerns appropriately, and escalate issues to supervisors when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to all licensing standards, organizational policies, and water safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and clean pool environment by inspecting facilities, monitoring equipment, and ensuring proper upkeep.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all children, families, and staff in accordance with organizational policies.
