About The Position

Goldfish Swim School - Rochester is hiring a Swim Instructor who will train toward becoming a Lifeguard. The role supports the school's mission to teach children how to swim and stay safer in and around the water. No prior experience is required; paid training is provided, including some training completed from home. The employer covers the cost of lifeguard certification. The next certification class is expected in November or December, with no year specified. Employees begin as Swim Instructors at $15 per hour and move into the Lifeguard role at $17 per hour once certified. By the end of training, employees will be cross-trained in both positions. The facility serves children ages 4 months to 12 years old.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old, in accordance with applicable lifeguard certification requirements.
• Be comfortable working with children and communicating with parents.
• Be able to swim 50 meters forward, without swimming on the back; untimed.
• Be reliable, responsible, and eager to learn.
• Have strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Be willing to complete paid training and obtain lifeguard certification.
• Successfully complete any required background checks before training.

Responsibilities

• Teach engaging swim lessons to children ages 4 months to 12 years old.
• Help swimmers develop water safety skills, confidence, and a love of swimming.
• Once certified, provide active lifeguard supervision and help maintain a safe pool environment.
• Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
• Communicate positively and professionally with parents and families.
• Contribute to a welcoming, supportive, and fun environment for members.
• Complete paid training and obtain lifeguard certification.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employer.
