About The Position

This is a part-time, regular position within the Recreation and Culture department. The role involves lifeguarding and instruction duties, with a schedule of 10 to 20 hours per week. The hourly rate is $32.55 per hour, as per Schedule “B” Outside Employees, Aquatics.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED
  • National Lifeguard Award – Pool
  • Standard First Aid with CPR “C”
  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)
  • Aquafit Instructor
  • AED Certification
  • Sound knowledge and/or experience in lifeguarding/instruction duties and teaching methods/group leadership techniques with emphasis on water safety instruction and aquatic skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience in performing pool operation and maintenance
  • Sound knowledge of theory and practice, lifeguarding, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid
  • Working knowledge of Pool Chemistry
  • Ability to prepare facility related records and reports
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Initiative, sound judgement, positive and responsive when dealing with the public, user groups and staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Inquisitive and ability to ask questions
  • Effective listener
  • Police Information Check

Responsibilities

  • Perform lifeguarding/instruction duties and utilize teaching methods/group leadership techniques with emphasis on water safety instruction and aquatic skills.
  • Perform pool operation and maintenance.
  • Apply knowledge of theory and practice in lifeguarding, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and first aid.
  • Apply working knowledge of Pool Chemistry.
