About The Position

This position is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. This position is responsible for functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility. Typical duties include: performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard; preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations, and giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters; and overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to hire. Ability to travel is required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application submission.
  • Completion of the application questions is required.
  • Applicant responses to the application questions must specifically answer the questions asked.
  • Responses to application questions must be supported by work history/information listed on the application/resume.
  • Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Basic First Aid certification.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module certification.
  • Ability to travel is required.
  • If under the age of 18, must print, complete, sign, and have a parent or legal guardian sign the Authorization for Background and Drug Test for Minors and bring it to the interview.
  • Must pass an initial swim test within seven (7) business days of accepting a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must pass an initial background investigation.
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Must pass a physical examination.

  • Completion of mandatory training, including orientation.
  • Work all scheduled shifts during the first month of active status (for hiring incentive).

Responsibilities

  • Functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility.
  • Performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard.
  • Preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations.
  • Giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters.
  • Overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.
  • Occasionally accepting cash and making change.
  • Operating a concession stand or gift shop.
  • Collecting fees, admission tickets, and passes from patrons at various events or City facilities.
