About The Position

The Brotherhood Crusade Life Skills & Entrepreneur Trainer will educate, inform and guide Youth and Young Adults enrolled in our YouthSource Center. The incumbent will be charged to train and provide in- and out-of classroom settings that cause young people to value, aspire to and fully adopt attitudes, behaviors and beliefs that facilitate their current and future success in school and in life. This includes providing a curriculum that fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and the ability to effectively communicate along with personal and social responsibility that will contribute to good citizenship. Specifically, the Life Skills & Entrepreneur Trainer shall cause 14-29 year old South Los Angeles County young people (with an emphasis on individuals who present with barriers to employment) to successfully graduate from Brotherhood Crusade’s workforce development program, which includes Brotherhood Crusade’s Stepwise Employment Experiences pathway, and be well-prepared to secure, thrive in, advance in and sustain employment in a living wage or more highly-compensated career or entrepreneurship. Importantly, the goal of the Brotherhood Crusade YouthSource Center is to provide services to young people that improve their life by causing them to self-actualize, increase their agency and self-determination, develop vocational power (life and social) and technical skills, improve their academic proficiency, and facilitate their adoption of success principles that lead to self-reliance as well as subsequent advancement with respect to their career goals and objectives. To this end, the Life Skills & Entrepreneur Trainer shall build meaningful relationships with program participants; instruct beginning, intermediate and advanced job preparation, entrepreneurship training and continuation classes; instruct financial education classes; establish partnerships with employers and workforce training institutions with respect to the use and instruction of their curricula; work with the YouthSource Center team effectuate desired outcomes for participants; and develop curricula for and instruct program participants who have been placed in stepwise employment opportunities to ensure sustained learning and growth in accordance with their individual-specific youth development plans.

Requirements

  • Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and occasional weekends, to support program activities, participant engagement and organization events.

  • Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive job preparation and continuation classes using the Brotherhood Crusade Self Actualization, Jr. Executive Workforce Development Program, Power (Life) Skills for Vocational Success, Taking Financial Control, Ubuntu Experience, Accenture Skills to Succeed, and other approved curricula.
  • Develop beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive job preparation and continuation curricula as appropriate.
  • Execute formal agreements with and between the youth/young adult, their parent or guardian (as appropriate) and Brotherhood Crusade outlining the terms and conditions of program participation.
  • Develop and maintain database and statistics that directly relate to participant progress with respect to their learning goals and objectives as required by our funding partners and delineated in the Brotherhood Crusade Workforce Development Evaluation and Learning Protocol.
  • Maintain requisite records of youth and young adults as it relates to their instructional progress and matriculation through the learning objectives identified in their individual-specific youth development plan.
  • Develop, facilitate and provide pre-employment and post-employment workshops and professional development opportunities.
  • Create, develop and instruct curricula that address issues identified by the Job Placement Liaison or Job Developer such that the youth and young adults continue to develop and improve their workplace skills and behaviors and are well positioned to consistently exceed employer expectations.
  • Instruct the training curriculum of employment partners, as appropriate.
  • Prepare youth for and engage in the youth development, vocation development and entrepreneurial opportunities that may be presented by stakeholders, corporate or foundation partners.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions according to a prepared plan alternating entrepreneurship classes as appropriate and as required.
  • Specify relevant curriculum to specific age/level groups and provide relevant technical inputs to enter the job market.
  • Coach young people with developing viable micro-entrepreneurship ideas and help them develop an introductive business plan.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments for participant referrals, development plans, and needs assessment profiles.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of Life Skills graduations, including tracking participant completion, preparing recognition materials, coordinating with staff, and helping create a meaningful experience that celebrates young people’s progress and readiness for the next step in their workforce development pathway.
