About The Position

Trane Technologies is seeking a Project Developer for its Life Science Solutions Business. This role involves working with internal teams and customers to identify and develop refrigeration turnkey design-build solutions, with a specific focus on cold room contracting and walk-in refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, modular cold rooms, and controlled-environment storage. The Project Developer's responsibilities span the full project lifecycle, encompassing scope-of-work development, cost estimating, equipment selection, and engineering coordination. The position requires deep knowledge of refrigeration systems, particularly cold room and walk-in refrigeration construction, coupled with strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills. The Project Developer will provide consultative support for Design-Build Turnkey work across various cold room and walk-in refrigeration projects, requiring mastery of acquisition, technical aptitude, and project management skills. Trane Technologies is a world leader in sustainable climate solutions, committed to putting the planet first.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field — or equivalent field experience in cold room contracting or walk-in refrigeration installation.
  • Demonstrated experience with cold room and walk-in refrigeration contracting, including knowledge of insulated panel systems, refrigeration equipment selection, door hardware, flooring systems, and cold room construction sequencing.
  • Ability to audit existing refrigeration and control systems — including walk-in cooler/freezer systems — and recommend solutions to improve performance, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Understanding of construction methods and practices specific to cold room and walk-in refrigeration installations, including coordination of panel fabricators, refrigeration contractors, and general contractors; ability to communicate with and direct subcontractors to obtain critical proposal information.
  • General knowledge of basic engineering, electricity, mechanical refrigeration systems, and the building construction industry, with specific familiarity with walk-in refrigeration system configurations (self-contained, remote, split systems) and cold room construction standards.
  • Familiarity with refrigerant regulations, including EPA SNAP, CARB compliance, A2L refrigerants, and low-GWP alternatives relevant to walk-in and cold room applications.
  • Project Management experience required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or equivalent certification a plus.
  • Ability to develop and write refrigeration system-level sequence of operations and control requirements for cold room environments — including temperature mapping, alarming, and monitoring systems — is a strong benefit.
  • Proficiency in Visio, AutoCAD, and/or other design software relevant to cold room and walk-in layout design; knowledge of computerized energy simulation tools a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop refrigeration systems and solutions — with a primary emphasis on contracting cold rooms, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, and specialty controlled-temperature enclosures — using FARRAR equipment and controls alongside other leading refrigeration systems; responsibilities include project scoping, concept development, engineering analysis, and system validation.
  • Lead the development of cold room and walk-in refrigeration contracting proposals, including panel system selection (insulated metal panels, floor systems, door hardware), refrigeration equipment specifications, and MEP coordination required for turnkey delivery.
  • Support Sales Associates in developing and establishing project installation budgets for cold room and walk-in refrigeration contracts, preparing scope summaries and guiding the engineering team on customer requirements.
  • Provide key technical support to pursue Life Science contracting business, including participation in strategic job acquisition teams for cold room contracting opportunities in pharmaceutical, life sciences, food & beverage, and industrial markets.
  • Manage the design process for cold room and walk-in refrigeration projects — from conceptual site plans and preliminary engineering documents through construction documents — ensuring designs meet applicable building codes, FDA/GMP compliance standards, and client specifications.
  • Evaluate and select refrigeration systems appropriate for cold room contracting applications, including single-stage and cascade refrigeration, CO₂ and low-GWP refrigerant systems, self-contained walk-in units, and remote condensing systems.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, including panel installers, mechanical contractors, electrical contractors, and controls integrators, to develop complete cold room and walk-in refrigeration contracting packages.
  • Continually validate the effectiveness of the Design-Build Turnkey process for cold room and walk-in applications; identify and develop process improvements to increase competitiveness and project delivery efficiency.
  • Responsible for securing customers from Solutions Development through project transition to Fulfillment across cold room contracting and walk-in refrigeration project types.
  • Assist and support all efforts of acquisition and customer satisfaction.
  • Some travel is required, and other duties as assigned.
