About The Position

The Life Safety Inspection Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of fire alarm, sprinkler, extinguisher, and suppression technicians. This role involves direct oversight of technicians, daily dispatch and labor planning, work order review, and timecard/payroll review. The manager will also conduct field coaching and ride-alongs to ensure quality control, safety, and adherence to code compliance. Additionally, the role requires managing field-level escalations, ensuring inspection readiness, and coordinating with customers and subcontractors. Team development, safety oversight, and internal collaboration with scheduling, project, and inventory teams are also key aspects of this position. The manager will also assist with hiring new technicians and monitoring third-party vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day activity of fire alarm, sprinkler, extinguisher, and suppression technicians.
  • Ensure techs are scheduled efficiently, with appropriate skill sets assigned to jobs.
  • Ensure completed work orders are ready for billing.
  • Approve daily/weekly hours, ensuring accuracy and overtime control.
  • Conduct regular in-field visits for quality control, safety, and coaching purposes.
  • Ensure timely completion of repairs, inspections, and follow-up deficiencies.
  • Actively monitor and work backlog to avoid aged WOs, missed inspections, or delayed repairs.
  • Confirm jobs are properly prepared (material, documents, tools) and inspection ready before dispatch.
  • Handle on-site customer issues, rework needs, or delays before escalating to Total Service Manager.
  • Conduct periodic QC on inspections and repairs to ensure code compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Assign work orders to technicians based on availability, skill set, location, and job priority.
  • Coordinate scheduling details with customers and subcontractors as needed.
  • Maintain a forward-looking schedule with at least 45 days of inspections planned in advance.
  • Route technicians strategically to minimize drive time and maximize billable efficiency.
  • Develop technician skill sets and assist with NICET certifications, licensing, or on-the-job training.
  • Provide input on performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
  • Foster a positive work environment aligned with safety, accountability, and growth.
  • Ensure proper PPE, safe practices, and incident reporting protocols are followed.
  • Verify that tools, ladders, test equipment, and vehicles are maintained, tracked, and used properly.
  • Support audits or inspections related to NFPA, OSHA, AHJ, and company standards.
  • Work closely with schedulers and dispatch to make real-time adjustments and solve technician issues.
  • Coordinate technician crossover for inspection/repairs post-project when needed.
  • Support procurement and tracking of technician materials/tools/equipment.
  • Help conduct interviews/hiring for new technicians.
  • Manage or help monitor third-party vendors or subcontractors.
  • Provide weekly updates or reports to the Total Service Manager on field performance.
