About The Position

Young Community Developers (YCD) is a nonprofit organization established in 1973, serving residents of all ages in San Francisco's most underserved communities. YCD aims to empower residents towards economic mobility through education, workforce development, and social services, striving to break the cycle of poverty. The organization serves approximately 1,200 community members annually and has been recognized as one of the top 50 best non-profits to work for in the United States. The SF Justice Initiative is a strategy to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline for middle schoolers by providing support within schools and preventing entry into the juvenile delinquency system. This initiative is a collaboration with Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, Young Community Developers (YCD), Legal Services for Children, Disability Rights California, and Youth Law Center. The School Crisis Response Program Initiative is a collaborative effort focused on creating a safe and supportive environment within SFUSD by addressing violence, providing crisis intervention, and implementing prevention strategies. This initiative involves partnerships with Samoan Community Development Center, Wraparound Project, Roadmap to Peace, Tailormade, Community Youth Center SF, DCYF, JPD, and SFUSD.

Requirements

  • Clearance of TB test and fingerprinting are required
  • Must not be on active probation or parole
  • Ability to work between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at SFUSD school sites
  • Ability to travel to all SFUSD school sites as required
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communications, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills
  • Ability to think critically, problem solve and be resourceful

Nice To Haves

  • B.A./B.S. degree in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience preferred or associate's degree and four years of related experience. Candidates with 5 or more years' relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring/care coordination support to SFUSD middle school students during normal school hours
  • Conduct assessments of youth to identify their needs and goals to develop a care plan
  • Work collaboratively within the team to develop interventions and supports for the youth and their families.
  • Develop and facilitate care planning with specific goals related to academic and social-emotional learning and development (SEL/D).
  • Maintain ongoing caseload and consistent and timely written and electronic documentation of contacts with youth, their families, and community partners
  • Make and maintain contact with school officials, counselors, and other service providers/adult allies associated with the youth.
  • Conduct weekly home, community, and school visits for participants.
  • Provide one-on-one and group sessions for youth
  • Provide classroom observation and support
  • Provide Support during IEP Meetings, Expulsion Hearings and Reentry planning
  • Provide check-in with student and guardians
  • Prepare reports for DCYF-CMS and weekly citywide weekly coordination meetings
  • Participate in weekly youth services and supports meeting
  • Connect youth to additional services as identified by the School Crisis Support Team
  • All other duties as assigned
