About The Position

This full-time position will serve as a full-service police officer with managerial responsibilities for enforcing and ensuring that all subordinates enforce all relative Federal, State, and local laws, including all policies and procedures of the MDH Police Department. This position requires that the employee enforce the aforesaid laws, rules, and regulations in a fair, impartial, and equitable manner. This position will provide guidance, training, directions, and recommendations for disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and counseling for all subordinates. This position will conduct criminal and internal investigations as required and/or assigned by the MDH Police Department. This position is supervised by the Police Manager, Executive Officers, and/or designee. All Lt’s will follow the chain of command. All police operational information will flow through the chain of command. The current chain of command at most Hospital Centers is very clear, ascending from the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief of Police.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
  • Three years of experience supervising certified law enforcement officers.
  • Possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history.
  • Oral interview.
  • Physical examination.
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Provide the facility with a phone number where they can be reached.
  • May be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
  • Subject to substance abuse testing.
