About The Position

The LiDAR Technician III is a top tier technical role responsible for managing and utilizing LiDAR technology as well as managing field operations collecting, processing, and analyzing geospatial data. Additionally, the role of LiDAR Technician III provides technical experience in LiDAR data processing and production, extracting 2d and 3d information from data and generating CAD mapping for delivery to clients. This role allows for transitioning into a Project Manager I level OR remaining in this heavy technical role to finalize Topographic surveys. You will also work with LiDAR Technicians I & II to develop and hone their skills and can be a team leader.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geography, GIS or related discipline or 6 years of relevant work experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience using software tools and packages for LiDAR processing and management, image processing and feature extraction such as ESRI, AutoCAD, Microstation, Terrasolid and GeoCue or other similar 3D mapping software packages desired.
Excellent computer skills.
Desire to learn new technologies, software, hardware, methodologies and assist the LIDAR team to operate at maximum efficiency.
Energy, drive and passion for the LIDAR division to succeed.
Ability to read, write and correspond clearly and concisely.
Ability to read, understand and apply technical information from procedure manuals, written and verbal instruction, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
Understanding of 3D surface modeling and 3D visualization concepts.
Ability to identify and clearly communicate problems, issues with data or instructions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Strict attention to details, always focusing on maximizing production while maintaining quality control.
Some travel may be required.
Ability to follow and execute a variety of instructions in various formats (written, oral, diagram, schedule form, etc.)
Adhere to deadlines and high volume of work.
A valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record.

Nice To Haves

Additional software experience with Corpscon, POS PAC MMS/ and Global mapper preferred.
Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience
Professional licensure

Responsibilities

Extract 2D and 3D information from the data and generate CAD mapping for delivery.
Troubleshoot and solve routine LiDAR data processing issues.
Assist in aerial triangulation and orthophotography production.
Create maps, digital elevation models, or 3D vector data from overlapping aerial or satellite photographs using specialized optical or digital instruments (stereocompilation).
Use Structure from Motion (SfM) techniques to produce survey grade level data.
Assist the production team in achieving technical quality standards while meeting production schedules.
Report daily production metrics to show adherence to project and task level budgets.
Communicate with team leads on issues affecting schedules, budgets and technical issues.
Perform technical troubleshooting for issues.
Provide technical experience in LiDAR data processing and production.
Participate in document and procedure reviews and updates.
Adhere to safety and security policies.
Document personal metrics and quality on assigned projects.
A lot of walking outside year round through all kinds of terrain and in extreme heat and cold.
Work effectively individually and as a team member.
