This position combines field data acquisition with office-based processing, mapping, and quality control. The role involves performing field data acquisition for surveying, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and mapping projects. Responsibilities include operating GNSS/GPS survey equipment, setting and collecting aerial targets, ground control points, and independent checkpoints, and assisting with planning and executing UAS LiDAR and photogrammetry missions. The technician will operate and maintain enterprise UAS/drone equipment, terrestrial laser scanners, and assist with mobile LiDAR and mobile mapping operations. Data collection will occur along roadways, utility corridors, pipelines, industrial facilities, and development sites. Field quality checks are essential to verify data coverage, completeness, and accuracy before leaving a project site, and the technician must identify potential acquisition problems. The role also includes downloading, organizing, backing up, and transferring field data, maintaining accurate field notes, equipment records, and project documentation, and performing routine equipment maintenance. Following company safety procedures, FAA regulations, and project-specific requirements is mandatory. The position requires coordination with the Geospatial Manager, Survey Project Managers, and other team members. In addition to field work, the role involves office processing and mapping, including processing UAS LiDAR and photogrammetry datasets, assisting with processing mobile LiDAR and terrestrial laser scanning data, registering and georeferencing point-cloud datasets, reviewing and cleaning LiDAR point clouds, and performing 3D feature extraction. The technician will extract topographic and planimetric features, develop breaklines for terrain modeling, generate and review point grids, DTMs, surfaces, and contours, and assist with preparing survey-quality mapping deliverables. Data review for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, as well as quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of point clouds, features, surfaces, and deliverables, are key responsibilities. Identifying potential data issues and organizing project files are also part of the role. The technician will work with Project Managers and office production personnel to resolve data issues and meet project deadlines, and assist with improving field acquisition and office processing workflows.
