About The Position

The Licensing & Safety Manager is responsible for the review of safety incidents for the purpose of tracking and identifying contributing factors. The learnings from these will be used by the Health and Safety team to create proactive strategies focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of children and staff within a childcare setting. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, conducting regular inspections, providing training, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in childcare, education, or a related field.
  • Understanding of childcare regulations, health and safety standards, and child protection practices.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience conducting investigations, analyzing data, identifying trends, and performing root cause analysis.
  • Ability to lead safety initiatives, manage projects, and support organizational change.
  • Knowledge of licensing requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and incident management systems.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to any health and safety incidents or emergencies ensuring immediate action has been taken to protect the health and safety of the children.
  • Identify critical incidents and report accordingly.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain detailed records of incidents and corrective actions taken.
  • Complete detailed reports of incidents.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the childcare environment standardizing positive practices and aimed at reducing safety risks.
  • Ensure all policies are up-to-date and compliant with local, state, provincial and federal regulations and reflect changes in best practices.
  • Manage the roll out of these policies and all BBNA regions.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for leadership and educators on health and safety protocols, including emergency response, and child protection.
  • Provide regular training and refreshers on BBNA policies pertaining to standardized safety practices such as incident management and transitions.
  • Integrate new acquisitions by providing training BBNA safety standards.
  • Perform regular safety inspections of the facilities including classrooms, playgrounds, and common areas.
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with internal policies as well as external health and safety regulations.
  • Create audits to ensure compliance with new and existing procedures.
  • Work closely with other stakeholders (education, operations, HR) as well external agencies to promote a culture of safety.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding health and safety matters.
  • Mentor and support center directors to facilitate their transition and ensure effective leadership within the centres.
