About The Position

This position will serve as the Licensing Operations Administrator for the assigned boards within the Licensing and Regulatory Programs Division (LRPD) and will also serve as Executive Director and Regulatory Operations Administrator as necessary. This position is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency requires the incumbent to be in the position for 90 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration. As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a crucial role in promoting the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified individuals start businesses and pursue their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor. They are responsible for regulating various professions and occupations, including architects and contractors, cosmetologists, and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of administrative law, regulations, and the procedures associated with professional licensing.
  • Knowledge of adjudication of licensing and disciplinary cases.
  • Knowledge of promulgation of regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement law and regulation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff.
  • Ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable knowledge of determining eligibility of applicants to participate in programs or to obtain licenses/certifications is preferred.
  • Experience leading a team, initiative, or project.
  • Significant experience in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment with progressive responsibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Licensing Operations Administrator for assigned boards within the Licensing and Regulatory Programs Division (LRPD).
  • Serve as Executive Director and Regulatory Operations Administrator as necessary.
  • Direct the administrative activities of boards, including managing and conducting meetings and studies.
  • Work with all parties involved in the legislative process.
  • Testify before committees, subcommittees, and commissions.
