About The Position

This position will serve as the Licensing Operations Administrator for multiple boards including the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects, Athlete Agent Registration Program, Auctioneers Board, Board for Branch Pilots, Board for Professional Soil Scientists, Wetland Professionals, and Geologists, and the Boxing, Martial Arts, and Professional Wrestling Advisory Board. As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a crucial role in promoting the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified individuals start businesses and pursue their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor. They are responsible for regulating various professions and occupations, including architects and contractors, cosmetologists, and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of administrative law, regulations, and the procedures associated with professional licensing.
  • Knowledge of adjudication of licensing and disciplinary cases.
  • Knowledge of promulgation of regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement law and regulation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff.
  • Ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to direct the administrative activities of boards.
  • Ability to manage and conduct meetings and studies.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process.
  • Ability to work with all parties involved in the legislative process.
  • Ability to testify before committees, subcommittees, and commissions.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable knowledge of determining eligibility of applicants to participate in programs or to obtain licenses/certifications is preferred.
  • Experience leading a team, initiative, or project.
  • Significant experience in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment with progressive responsibility preferred.
