About The Position

Performs moderately complex (journey-level) licensing and permits work. This involves receiving, investigating, and data entry review of license and permit applications, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes. The role includes communicating with external and internal customers and approving license and permit applications. May occasionally assist others in performing job duties of greater complexity. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Must complete the Licensing Department’s annual in-service training in-person and any other training the Department Director deems mandatory. Any mandatory training outside the designated duty station will involve travel, potentially including overnight stays. Travel requirement is 5%.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
  • One (1) or more years of full-time work experience performing moderately complex application processing and/or application investigations.
  • Must maintain all Licensing related certifications.
  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license, if applicable.
  • Knowledge of office practices; of administrative and technical procedures; and of applicable policies, administrative codes, interprets regulations and statutes.
  • Knowledge of and seeks intermediate training, development, and certification for self-development.
  • Exhibits sound knowledge, initiative, and judgment in accord with TABC’s Guiding Principles.
  • Skilled in continued proficiency in advanced licensing-related computer skills/software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, screens, analyzes, investigates, and reviews license and permit applications and other related documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal regulations, policies and guidelines for processing and issuance.
  • Monitors license and permit applications and requests for appropriate routing and processing needed to approve license and permits.
  • Accountable for the timely and accurate issuance of licenses and permits in accordance with the mandated performance measures.
  • Reviews, maintains, and updates essential information in the agency’s database system and other appropriate computer applications and systems.
  • Monitors daily status of application inventory and reports to supervisor.
  • Issues licenses and permits and coordinates with Resource and Planning for reimbursements or transfers of fees when applicable.
  • Reviews records associated with license and permit applications, violations, and other information required to determine qualification.
  • Reviews applications and ensures compliance with administrative codes, state statutes, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Provides administrative and technical assistance related to license and permit requirements to the public, agency staff, and government officials.
  • Answers Licensing inquiries pertaining to rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Creates notices, correspondence, and reports related to license and permit activities and compliance.
  • Conducts research to resolve customer service inquiries.
  • Provides customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provides administrative support associated with maintaining the office.
  • Contributes to the development of administrative processes and procedures for the Licensing Department.
  • May be assigned to special teams or projects.
  • May assist in the development of technical and administrative procedures for the review of license and permit applications.
  • Maintains all Licensing related certifications.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • In compliance with Senate Bill 321, agencies that hire a person who has retired from the Employees Retirement System (ERS) or the Law Enforcement and Custodial Officers Supplemental Fund (LECOS) on or after September 1, 2009, are required to remit a surcharge each month the return-to-work retiree is employed. Candidates meeting these requirements will be offered a lower base salary to cover the surcharge.
