About The Position

The Office of State Fire Marshal is dedicated to upholding the law and ensuring the protection of life and property from fire and explosion hazards. They also aim to guarantee the safety of citizens in the constructed environment, provide equal access for individuals with disabilities, and promote efficient energy use in commercial buildings. This role involves interpreting and explaining statutes, agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to licensure. The analyst will receive, examine, and analyze applicant data for accuracy and completeness to determine eligibility for various licenses, including those for Life Safety and Property Protection, Amusements, Fireworks, Pyrotechnic Operators, Wholesalers, Firework Displays, and Conveyances. Responsibilities also include processing licensure fees and notices of violations, conducting pre-licensure criminal background reviews, assisting applicants in determining the correct license type from over 47 options, providing examination information for pyrotechnic operator licenses, and assigning official license numbers.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the issuance, maintenance, or reinstatement of licenses; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A Bachelor's degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and explains statutes, agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for licensure to officials, the public, staff, potential licensees, etc.
  • Receives, examines, and analyzes data submitted by and/or on behalf of each applicant for accuracy, authenticity, and completeness of factual information to document determination of eligibility for registration and qualification for Life Safety and Property Protection, Amusements, Fireworks, Pyrotechnic Operators, Wholesalers, Firework Displays, Conveyances licensure.
  • Reviews applications to determine if requisite licensure and/or registration fees have been received by the agency.
  • Receives and processes payments for licensure fees and notices of violations in accordance with RS 40:1664, et.seq and applicable rules.
  • Conducts pre-licensure review of criminal backgrounds for eligibility of each applicant for property protection licenses, which may involve contact with applicants or discussions with legal staff.
  • Assists firms and employees in the determination of the type of license needed from over 47 occupational licenses/endorsements.
  • Assists employees with examination information for pyrotechnic operator license, which requires examination.
  • Assigns official license numbers incorporating one or multiple endorsements and analyzes and prepares licenses for same.
