This is a mobile licensed wastewater operator role headquartered out of NSU’s Hillsborough, NJ office, supporting wastewater operations across Northern New Jersey. The position provides hands-on operations and maintenance coverage for multiple facilities and requires a highly independent, well-organized operator who can manage site coverage, respond to alarms, and maintain strong client relationships. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with solid technical judgment, comfortable working autonomously while supporting operational reliability, compliance, and customer satisfaction across assigned facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3 years of wastewater experience
  • Driver’s License
  • S2 Wastewater License required

Responsibilities

  • Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as PH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc., in order to monitor system condition
  • Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facilities permits
  • Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes and pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
  • Assist to prepare monthly written operating report based on facility’s operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
  • Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
  • Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of and report safety hazards
  • Be part of a 24 hour on call rotation
  • Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
  • Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
  • Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
  • Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
  • Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route
  • Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
  • Confined Space Entry – this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management
