The employee must be able to avoid combative or aggressive inmates and may occasionally become involuntarily engaged with them. The position requires willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, evenings, and nights, and to work 12-hour shifts. Regular attendance and timeliness are required. Other duties may be assigned. McLennan County conducts background checks on new hires; convictions or deferred adjudications are considered individually and are not automatic bars to employment. The posting lists disqualifiers including specified criminal convictions or adjudications, certain driving offenses, current indictment, illegal drug sales or manufacture, family violence offenses, and certain military discharge statuses.
