LVN or Licensed Vocational Nurses (Long Beach, CA) – Youth Residential Program
About The Position
PsyPhyCare, a division of Business Staffing of America, Inc., is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide on-site medical and wellness services within a federally supported residential youth program in Long Beach, California. This role supports the Health & Wellness program through direct patient care, prevention initiatives, health education, and coordination with healthcare providers and interdisciplinary staff. The program serves young adults, ages 16–24, with the mission to prepare participants for meaningful employment and independent living. This is a temporary contract position with full-time availability.
Requirements
- Current and unrestricted Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the State of California.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in a clinical, school-based, residential, or community health setting required.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program required.
Nice To Haves
- Older youth experience preferred, particularly in a school or residential setting.
- Experience working with adolescents or young adults preferred.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
- Additional nursing certifications are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site nursing services within the scope of practice under the applicable state nurse practice act and facility Wellness Guidelines.
- Triage urgent and emergent medical situations.
- Provide first aid, clinical assessments, and basic treatment.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions.
- Administer medications and assist with examinations.
- Prepare and dispense medications for overnight and weekend student use as authorized.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation and records.
- Track laboratory results, immunizations, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Deliver individual and group health education sessions.
- Maintain medical and prescription supply inventories.
- Provide staff training on health and wellness topics.
- Collaborate with community healthcare partners and program leadership.
- Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.
- Identify potential health, behavioral, learning, or mental health concerns and refer students as appropriate.
- Mentor students through professional role modeling and participation in program initiatives as assigned.
