About The Position

To provide safe, cost-effective patient care through the health experience, according to established standards utilizing the nursing process, within the scope of practice of the Licensed Vocational Nurse. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for caring for patients in the ambulatory setting by assisting in the collection of subjective and objective data, recognize problems or abnormal conditions specific to the patient and perform a psychosocial assessment using active listening, verbal communication, and non-verbal communication. The LVN will contribute to the development of the patient plan of care and will implement, under the direction of a physician, AHP, or RN, only those parts of the plan of care that are within the LVN scope of practice. The LVN will incorporate the five (5) Simply Better steps with every patient and team member interaction.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one-year LVN experience preferred
  • Must have experience giving injections and drawing blood
  • Graduate from an accredited school or program of vocational nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in California.
  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED), ACLS, and PALS certification are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs age specific competencies in an out-patient clinical setting
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement program to maintain quality care standards
  • Maintains competency through participating in department/hospital training programs.
  • Prepares patients for medical examination or treatment while accurately gathering clinical data and accurately documenting in the medical record.
  • Assists with procedures and performs tests as directed by the hospital faculty and resident physicians while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assists hospital faculty with teaching resident physicians and medical students.
  • Provides patient and family education as appropriate for procedures, medications, and tests.
  • Administers medication and intravenous fluids as directed by the hospital’s faculty and resident physicians following hospital’s policy and procedures.
  • Prepares test results with chart for physician review daily.
  • Completes daily QA for laboratory testing.
  • Completes department specific jobs assigned to each individual nurse.
