About The Position

The Texas Health LVN Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence-based onboarding program designed for graduate LVNs. It offers a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, debriefing/self-care sessions, and supportive 360-degree evaluations. Residents will gain experience on their selected home units and rotate through other departments to broaden their nursing skills. This 15-month program aims to equip new LVNs with the experience, judgment, skills, and confidence needed for complex hospital environments. The next cohort begins on February 22, 2027.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program required.
Acceptance into THR residency program required.
LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse upon hire required.
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required.

Nice To Haves

Graduated within the last 12 months preferred.
Less than one-year experience at the time the residency begins preferred.
Have not previously completed a THR nursing residency preferred.

Responsibilities

Participate in a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum.
Engage in a formal mentoring program.
Attend debriefing/self-care sessions.
Participate in supportive 360-degree evaluations.
Gain experience on personally selected home units.
Rotate/cross-train through other departments to gain expanded nursing experience.
Provide patient care on a 28-Bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with Neuro Overflow.
Care for patients with conditions such as COPD, Diabetic complications, amputations, infections/wounds, Sepsis, Trachs, Chest tubes, fresh amputations/colostomies/I&Ds, GI Bleeds, and Failure to Thrive.
Utilize one negative pressure room for TB and other airborne precautions.
