The Therapist provides comprehensive assessments, coordination, planning, and implementation of a psychosocial treatment plan for patients in respective departments. This role promotes optimal mental health by providing ongoing psychosocial support and services to patients and their families for adjustments to illness, grief, addiction, and other psychosocial stressors. The Therapist works with an interdisciplinary team to achieve treatment goals, utilizing high-risk criteria, medical records, school records, clients, families, nurses, physicians, and others to evaluate patient’s biopsychosocial needs. A treatment plan and a comprehensive termination of treatment/discharge plan are developed, and objective and accurate data regarding assessments and interventions are documented. The role requires maintaining working knowledge of community-based resources, programs, and social services, and educating patients and families on their health care options while connecting them with appropriate resources. The Therapist may develop and facilitate support groups and workshops, and provide input on treatment schedules, patient assignments, and/or crisis interventions as requested by the Clinical Manager. Additionally, the Therapist-Licensed may provide ongoing teaching and supervision to MSW employees and interns and may sign off on State requirements for LCSW licensing. Advanced clinical knowledge is used to assess and identify psychiatric and psychosocial issues facing patients, and assessments related to legal ethical reporting requirements may be conducted. Some departments may offer additional specialist services such as Reiki Therapy if the clinician is certified.
