The Substance Abuse Counselor reports directly to the Program Coordinator or the Director of Behavioral Health at the U.S.VETS site. This individual is responsible for assessing and providing counseling to individuals with emotional, mental, or substance abuse difficulties, including the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. The role involves conducting comprehensive substance use assessments and clinical evaluations, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and providing individual, group, and family counseling services focused on substance use recovery. The counselor will monitor and document client progress, coordinate care with internal multidisciplinary teams and external partners, and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. Additionally, the role requires adherence to confidentiality, ethical standards, and agency policies, as well as participation in clinical supervision and training. The position may also involve administrative duties, assisting with basic services, and potentially providing transportation to community agencies.
