About The Position

The City of Fresno is seeking experienced professional engineers to join their team and contribute to the mission of 'Building a Better Fresno.' The city has numerous capital projects underway and has secured significant funding for infrastructure improvements. This role involves performing complex engineering work, requiring licensure as a Professional Engineer. Incumbents may also supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the performance of pre-professional engineers and technical engineering staff in various disciplines, including civil, electrical, fire protection, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, sanitary, or traffic engineering. Current vacancies are in the Capital Projects Department and the Department of Public Utilities. The Capital Projects Department is focused on delivering critical capital projects efficiently and on time, with openings in Design Services, Transportation Project Management, and Utilities and On-Site Project Management. Experience in transportation and Civil Engineering is desirable for these roles. The Department of Public Utilities oversees the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater projects, as well as water resources management. Knowledge of specific Fresno Metropolitan Water Resources Management Plans and related documents is preferred for this department. Eligible candidates will be placed on a list for three months, with a possible extension up to two years.

Requirements

  • Valid registration as a Professional Engineer by the State of California or equivalent at time of application.
  • Professional Engineers licensed in another state must possess a valid Professional Engineer license from the State of California at time of appointment.
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License may be required within sixty (60) days of appointment.
  • Attach a copy of your valid registration as a Professional Engineer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transportation and Civil Engineering is desirable for Capital Projects Department roles.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Fresno Metropolitan Water Resources Management Plan, Groundwater Sustainability Management Plan, Urban Water Management Plan, Recycled Water Master Plan, and Sewer Collection System Master Plan, and the Central Valley Project Contract, is preferred for the Department of Public Utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex engineering work requiring licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the performance of pre-professional engineers and technical engineering staff.
  • Engage in civil, electrical, fire protection, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, sanitary, or traffic engineering.
  • Prioritize capital projects and manage other critical responsibilities integral to daily departmental operations.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects and improvements to general City infrastructure.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and construction of potable water, recycled water, and wastewater projects.
  • Provide oversight on water resources management matters.
