About The Position

Under the supervision of the Consulting Psychiatrist, the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) provides professional counseling, therapy, and psychotherapy services to patients within Physician Services. The LPC conducts comprehensive assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and delivers evidence-based therapeutic interventions to support improved mental and emotional health. This role functions as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, collaborates with healthcare professionals, and offers clinical consultation and crisis intervention as needed. The LPC ensures accurate documentation, maintains patient records, protects patient rights, and adheres to all established policies, procedures, ethical standards, and professional guidelines. The position upholds the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital while providing high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marital and Family Therapy
  • One (1) year related experience.
  • Knowledge of mental health counseling principles and therapeutic modalities, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong clinical assessment and evaluation skills, with the ability to identify patient needs, risk factors, and appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and other behavioral health professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport, maintain professionalism, and adapt to diverse patient populations.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations, provide rapid de-escalation, and deliver clinically appropriate emergency interventions or referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive mental health assessments, evaluations, and diagnostic interviews.
  • Develops, implements, and updates individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs and goals.
  • Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy using approved therapeutic models and evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborates with the Consulting Psychiatrist and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to coordinate patient care.
  • Offers crisis intervention, de-escalation, and urgent support to patients experiencing acute distress.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed, and confidential patient records, case histories, and clinical documentation.
  • Provides consultative support to physicians, nurses, and staff regarding behavioral health concerns or patient management strategies.
  • Refers patients to appropriate internal services or external agencies when specialized or additional care is needed.
  • Ensures all work complies with organizational policies, professional guidelines, ethical standards, and patient rights requirements.
