About The Position

The School-Based Therapist provides individual, family, and group counseling services primarily within partnering school districts, helping students improve their emotional well-being, behavioral health, and academic success. Working closely with school staff, families, and community partners, the therapist delivers evidence-based, trauma-informed care while maintaining all clinical documentation and confidentiality requirements. While the primary work location is in assigned schools, the therapist may periodically provide services at Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley's Counseling & Wellness offices to ensure continuity of care and meet the needs of students and families. The function of this position is to provide quality clinical care to clients. Counselors assess clients on admission with respect to behavioral health needs and review, update, and execute that assessment on a continuing basis. Candidates for this role must hold an active LPC, LPCC, LSW, LISW, or LISW-S license.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active LPC, LPCC, LSW, LISW, or LISW-S license.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill's liability insurance provider.
  • Maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.
  • One year of professional practice experience in a behavioral health setting providing one-on-one client therapy, diagnostic assessment, and treatment planning.
  • Possess the ability to evaluate the behavioral health needs of clients.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), with the ability to utilize an electronic health record system (CareLogic).
  • Display good customer service skills with clients, internal colleagues and the community at large.
  • Excellent clinical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to use an EHR (CareLogic).
  • Demonstrate initiative, as well as the ability to work cohesively within a team.
  • Ability to show care, warmth, patience, and nurturing to the target population.

Nice To Haves

  • Appropriate degrees to support license status (LSW, LPC, MFT, CDCA, LCDC II or III).

Responsibilities

  • Inform clients of limits to confidentiality, rights regarding services delivered and payment expectations.
  • Perform diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, and counseling services within supervised scope of practice in collaboration with clients.
  • Establish and review goals for each client.
  • Coordinate interventions with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Integrate services and/or make referrals to appropriate professionals or outside agencies as indicated.
  • Perform community outreach, information and referral, education assignments, and consultation services as approved by supervisor.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, case conferences, supervision sessions, etc., as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Under the supervision of an Independently Licensed Practitioner, the Licensed Professional Counselor may oversee the work of interns and volunteers.
