About The Position

The licensed practical nurse (LPN) supports the oral surgery team by providing high-quality patient care and ensuring smooth clinical operations. This role assists surgeons during all phases of treatment, manages medications and controlled substances, performs IV starts and patient monitoring, and oversees infection control and emergency readiness. The LPN ensures accurate documentation, coordinates pre- and post-operative communications, and helps maintain supplies, equipment, and chart compliance. This position also supports surgical assisting, specimen handling, and sterilization processes as needed to promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency, required
  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with active license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and PALS required
  • DAANCE Certification or willingness to complete the DAANCE certification require
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, perioperative care, and postoperative monitoring
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and accurate clinical documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patient education and comfort
  • Knowledge of infection control, safety standards, and clinical best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing (ADN or BSN) preferred
  • Prior nursing experience in surgical, perioperative, Med/Surg, or critical care settings highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a physician or RN.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment.
  • Assist with pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, including patient education and recovery monitoring.
  • Start, maintain, and discontinue IVs (where permitted).
  • Administer medications as ordered and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Perform diagnostic tasks such as glucose testing, EKG strip reading, and blood draws.
  • Manage patient flow and support efficient daily operations in the clinical area.
  • Ensure charts, consents, and clinical documentation are accurate and complete.
  • Communicate pre- and post-operative instructions and follow-up with patients as needed.
  • Maintain and track controlled substances and other medications in accordance with regulations.
  • Support sterilization procedures and infection control protocols.
  • Oversee emergency equipment readiness (defibrillator, oxygen, emergency medications).
  • Participate in or lead routine emergency response drills.
  • Operate clinical and surgical equipment (monitors, infusion pumps, PRP machine, suction, O2/N2O, imaging equipment).
  • Assist with specimen collection and processing as needed (e.g., biopsy submissions).
  • Work closely with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and outside providers to coordinate care.
  • Request and track medical clearances; communicate clearance requirements to patients.
  • Assist with or perform duties of a surgical assistant when necessary.
