About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in the Surgical/Post Surgical Rehab department at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role provides patient care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the LPN license. The schedule is 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., three 12-hour shifts per week, with one weekend per month.

The LPN contributes to patient assessments and well-being, administers medications and monitors patients for adverse reactions, and performs laboratory tests and therapeutic services. The role also educates patients and families about disease treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care.

Requirements

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the LPN license.
• Contribute to patient assessments and assure patient well-being.
• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.
• Educate patients and families about disease treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care.
