About The Position
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses at SCI Waymart. This position provides hands-on nursing care by supporting treatment plans, monitoring health conditions, and ensuring continuity of care within the institution. The nurse assists individuals in the facility and helps provide stability, care, and encouragement. The role is full-time. The facility operates three shifts around the clock, every day of the year: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM, and 10:00 PM–6:30 AM. Work hours are to be determined, and alternative schedules may be available based on operational needs. Telework is not available. New Commonwealth employees begin at an annual salary of $68,914 before taxes. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Requirements
- Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania; applicants with an active temporary practice permit must obtain LPN licensure within the one-year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- At appointment, provide proof of a current, valid Pennsylvania temporary practice permit or Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
- Applicants within 60 days of completing a State Board of Nursing-approved licensed practical nursing program are eligible to apply.
Responsibilities
- Check vital signs, observe health changes, and report physical and emotional behaviors.
- Prepare and administer medications and document treatments as ordered.
- Assist ambulatory and non-ambulatory inmates with daily living needs and hygiene.
- Provide first aid, CPR, and AED support during medical emergencies.
- Record information in the electronic health record and prepare reports for transfers or release.
- Sterilize instruments, maintain supplies, and ensure treatment areas remain stocked.
