About The Position

The Department of Corrections is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide nursing care and support the medical needs of inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Fayette. The role carries out nursing care plans and supports practitioners and Registered Nurses in delivering safe, effective, and consistent health services. It offers a steady routine, hands-on care, and opportunities to learn new skills.

Requirements

• Have active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Employees with an active temporary practice permit must obtain Licensed Practical Nurse licensure within the one-year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Applicants within 60 days of completing a State Board of Nursing-approved practical nursing program are eligible to apply.
• At appointment, provide proof of a current, valid Pennsylvania temporary practice permit or Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse license.
• Successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
• Be able to perform the essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide treatments, check vital signs, and assist inmates with activities of daily living.
• Administer medications as directed and document treatments in health records.
• Respond to urgent medical situations and provide first aid or CPR when needed.
• Maintain accurate medical reports, prepare records for transfers, and manage controlled-substance documentation.
• Sterilize medical tools and maintain appropriate inventory levels in treatment areas.
• Share essential information with staff to support continuity of care across shifts.
