About The Position
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses for immediate openings at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, NE. This role involves providing patient care within a correctional institution setting, including administering medications, assessing patients, responding to emergencies, and assisting with inventory. The NDCS is committed to inmate programming, education, physical and behavioral healthcare, and re-entry services, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Candidates are expected to model the NDCS values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence.
Requirements
- A current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska is required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training.
- Must submit to background security check.
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test.
- Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NDCS Pre-service Training Program.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care in a clinic or hospital setting in a correctional institution.
- Administer medications, transcribe and carry out doctor's orders, assess patients utilizing protocols, triage, respond to emergencies.
- Assist in moving inmate patients.
- Assists with inventory and ordering of supplies and medications.
