About The Position

This is a temporary position for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working part-time on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 PM to 11:15 PM, totaling 17 hours bi-weekly at Grand Manor. The role involves providing safe, competent, and ethical client care, ensuring nursing knowledge is current, and demonstrating leadership within the health-care team by supervising and mentoring Health Care Aides (HCAs). The LPN will also participate in complaint resolution, develop therapeutic nurse-client relationships, adhere to legal requirements for practice and documentation, maintain client confidentiality, support HCAs in progressing their competencies, and contribute to a culture of safety through ongoing evaluation and identification of safety concerns.

Requirements

  • Current and active registration in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurse of Alberta.
  • Maintain certification in First Aid & CPR Level C.
  • Satisfactory current criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Providing safe, competent, and ethical client care to their full scope of practice and within the requirements of their regulatory college Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
  • Ensuring that nursing knowledge is current and possessing the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and clinical judgment to fulfil their role.
  • Identifying when HCAs require assistance, competency, and/or assignment is beyond their education and/or ability and ensuring assistance is sought out.
  • Demonstrating leadership within the health-care team through supervision and mentoring of Health Care Aides.
  • Participating in complaint resolution with the team, clients, family members, or others and ensuring the complaint is addressed or communicated to the appropriate person to ensure follow-up is completed.
  • Developing the therapeutic nurse-client relationship and applying the ethical framework of this relationship.
  • Adhering to all legal requirements of nursing practice and documentation.
  • Maintaining client confidentiality in written, oral and electronic communication.
  • Supporting the health care aids in progressing their competencies and delegating tasks to them as needed and within their competencies.
  • Contributing to a culture of safety, identifying safety concerns, and ensuring safety concerns are addressed.
  • Performing ongoing evaluation throughout delivery of care.
