About The Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works alongside a Registered Nurse to provide care to inmates and detainees while helping maintain a safe and secure workplace. The position involves developing nursing care plans with RN guidance, assessing patients, providing nursing care within the LPN’s scope, administering prescribed medications, monitoring patient progress, and maintaining confidential medical records. The posting advertises an additional $2.00 per hour for weekday and weekend nights and a $4,000 sign-on bonus.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold a current, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state where the facility is located.
- Maintain a current copy of the license on file at the facility.
- Demonstrate competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care.
- Be able to work without direct, immediate supervision when performing nursing diagnoses and provide appropriate follow-through treatment.
- Be able to work with computers and software typically used by the department.
Nice To Haves
- Two years of direct work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop nursing care plans with guidance from the Registered Nurse.
- Perform complete physical assessments and obtain medical histories.
- Provide nursing care within the LPN’s capacity and refer other medical problems to the appropriate physician.
- Administer prescribed medications as instructed, taking precautions against drug hoarding and trafficking.
- Periodically evaluate patients’ symptoms, reactions, and progress, and report problems to management.
- Follow industry and company accreditation policies.
- Document all detainee and inmate contacts and maintain confidential medical records.
- Help maintain a safe and secure workplace.
