About The Position
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to perform patient care in a clinic or hospital setting within the Nebraska State Penitentiary. This role is crucial for providing physical and behavioral healthcare to inmates. The department employs nearly 2,300 team members and operates institutions statewide, housing approximately 5,800 inmates. NDCS focuses on inmate programming, education, healthcare, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Requirements
- A current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska is required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training.
- Must submit to background security check.
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test.
- Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NDCS Pre-service Training Program.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care in a clinic or hospital setting in a correctional institution.
- Administer medications, transcribe and carry out doctor's orders, assess patients utilizing protocols, triage, respond to emergencies.
- Assist in moving inmate patients.
- Assists with inventory and ordering of supplies and medications.
