About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) contributes to patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under the supervision of registered nurses. The LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities consistent with their education and demonstrated competencies. This PRN role is with the clinical team at Lake County Juvenile Detention Center and covers day shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The nurse must be available for four shifts per month, including one weekend shift and one major or minor holiday during the year.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of employment.
• Obtain and maintain CPR certification.
• Must reside in the United States.
• Be available for four shifts per month, including one weekend shift and one major or minor holiday during the year.

• A minimum of one year of clinic experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, assess patients’ physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the Health Care Unit and housing units, contributing to individualized treatment planning and consulting with RNs and staff as needed.
• Implement treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, administer medications (including IV therapy if certified), and perform diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures.
• Collaborate in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift.
• Follow safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions, and respond to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
• Assist with medical or minor surgical procedures and implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans.
• Document nursing encounters using SOAP charting and communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, and follow policies and procedures in providing patient care.
