About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Short Term Assessment and Treatment Centre - Inpatient Unit team at UBC Hospital. This role practices within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice. The Licensed Practical Nurse will work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team, performing the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes in a designated specialty area. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting client care, as well as providing support to clients and their families. The role also involves supporting the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. The Short-Term Assessment and Treatment Centre (STAT Centre) is a community bed-based program providing specialized assessment and treatment to older adults (generally 65 years and older) with co-existing physical and/or mental health concerns, along with age-related psychological, cognitive, functional, and social needs. The work environment is described as picturesque, surrounded by greenery, architecture, and ocean views.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document client care.
  • Provide support to clients and their families.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where acuity or complexity requires advanced knowledge and skill.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
