About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Orthopedics utilizes the nursing process to provide care for assigned patients under the supervision of a person licensed by a state regulatory board to prescribe medication and treatment, or under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). The LPN maintains professional accountability for patient care, coordinates care with other departments, and protects patient rights and the confidentiality of patient information. Duties are performed in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.

This is a full-time position at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, Missouri, scheduled for 36 hours per week. The listed shift is 7:00 PM–7:00 AM. A sign-on bonus of up to $2,000 is offered for part-time and full-time caregivers.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
• Current LPN license in Missouri and compliance with all State Board of Nursing requirements.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, or obtain it within 30 days of hire.
• LPN-IV Certification completed before hire or within 3 months; timing may be extended up to 1 year based on unit requirements.
• Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
• Ability to perform significant bending and stooping and assist with patient lifting and turning.
• Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of an appropriately licensed person or the direction of an RN.
• Maintain professional accountability for care provided to assigned patients.
• Coordinate patient care with other departments.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.
