About The Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Kyle Health Center will play a vital role in providing comprehensive medical services to the local community. This position involves obtaining patient history, performing quality control checks on patient care equipment, and assisting in the identification and implementation of patient care plans. The LPN will document care, prepare patients for examinations, and communicate essential patient data to providers. A key aspect of this role includes recognizing and responding to emergency situations, administering medications and treatments, and educating patients and families about their care. The LPN will also participate in quality monitoring and assist with administrative tasks, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural diversity in all interactions.
Requirements
- Completed a program in practical nursing of at least 9 months' duration combined with 1 year of nursing assistant experience; or successful completion of a 2-year degree in practical nursing.
- Passed the NCLEX-PN exam.
- Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
- Valid American Heart Association certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Two years of nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical nursing or patient care facility.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history and patient family history.
- Perform quality control checks and operator maintenance for a variety of patient care equipment.
- Assist in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care.
- Document care given and patient response in the medical record.
- Prepare patient for physical examination.
- Communicate pertinent patient data to the appropriate provider.
- Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location.
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate resuscitative measures.
- Conduct prescribed nurse initiated, nurse practitioner, and physician orders and document in patient medical record.
- Assist in patient/family education regarding prescribed medications/therapies/diagnostic procedures.
- Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding.
- Assure content and correctness of a prepared report and sign document to validate its content.
- Participate in monitoring quality of care according to professional standards and established procedures.
- Respond to telephone inquiries regarding ward services and/or follow-up ancillary reports.
- Assist with ward related administrative tasks.
- Administer oxygen, intravenous fluids and prescribed medications in accordance with the Client policy.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce and in the community.
