The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides person-centered nursing care and clinical leadership to people who identify as women, aged 18 years and older, who are accessing supports through the Women's Emergency Accommodation Centre (WEAC) to end their homelessness. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the LPN uses a trauma-informed, relational approach to assess health needs, promote stabilization, and support individualized, goal-oriented care planning. The role delivers nursing care within the full scope of LPN practice while collaborating with team members to build capacity, improve health outcomes, and support women in achieving stability and pathways to housing. The LPN is accountable for maintaining professional standards, continuing competency, and providing safe, ethical, and evidence-informed care in accordance with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program recognized by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) is required and must be maintained.
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers (Level C) certification.
  • Immunization certification.
  • Medication administration certification.
  • 1+ years of primary care nursing experience.
  • 1+ years of experience developing and delivering individualized care plans.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting marginalized and vulnerable populations with complex needs.
  • Strong knowledge and application of relationship-based, harm reduction, person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based, collaborative, and solution-focused practices.
  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing trauma, mental illness, addictions, poverty, and other complex barriers using evidence-based models of practice.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMRs), Microsoft Office applications, and database systems.
  • Prior to successful employment with e4c, applicants are required to submit a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Women's Health certification is considered an asset.
  • Training or certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Suicide Intervention, Trauma-Informed Practice, and Harm Reduction are considered assets

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive, person-centered health assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with women and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver nursing care and clinical interventions within the full scope of LPN practice, using evidence-informed, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approaches.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate changes in health status, maintaining accurate records and ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of health information.
  • Coordinate access to healthcare services, community resources, and referrals while advocating for women to support health stabilization and pathways to housing.
  • Support clinic operations by preparing examination areas, maintaining medical equipment and supplies, coordinating diagnostic services, and assisting with clinical procedures within scope of practice.
  • Provide health education, coaching, and motivational support to women, promoting self-management, healthy lifestyles, preventative care, and achievement of individualized goals.
  • Promote safe, high-quality care by supporting infection prevention, occupational health and safety, professional practice standards, staff education, and continuous quality improvement.
