About The Position

This position will provide core mental health and addictions services including assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and support for residents. In response to an identified resident rehabilitation plan, develops, plans, implements, and maintains a full range of clinical services and resident centered rehabilitation programs. This is a temporary role until the incumbent returns from maternity leave.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved Practical Nursing Program
  • Current Registration with the appropriate provincial licensing body.
  • One (1) year recent related experience, including training or experience in addictions work; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience might be considered.
  • A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations.
  • An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated an ability to deal with potential violence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check for the Vulnerable Sector
  • Ability to successfully complete reference check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate: Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC
  • Evidence of compliance with the province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs)
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Implements psychosocial rehabilitation/treatment programs with individuals.
  • Provides high-quality direct nursing care and therapy to residents including established therapies such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, prescribed psychoactive medications, etc.
  • Conducts nursing assessments of residents relating to substance use needs through interviews, observation and data collected from other sources.
  • Formulates rehabilitation and treatment programs in collaboration with resident and their family, team leader and other multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Evaluates the effect of therapies in an ongoing relationship with the resident.
  • Investigates concerns expressed by residents and develops a plan of action.
  • Shares knowledge, provides direction, assignment and supervision to unregulated care providers as appropriate.
  • Provides input regarding residents' needs, performance and progress. Attends multidisciplinary care meetings.
  • Performs nursing care and procedures and evaluates outcomes
  • Administers medication to residents and provides medication reminders in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Observes residents and their environments, and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical and/or cognitive changes to supervisor.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as progress notes, observations, and resident charting. Reports problems and/or changes to designated staff. Answers general inquiries by telephone and in person and provides direction and routine information about programs and policies.
  • Places purchase orders with external suppliers, receives supplies, checks invoices against orders and goods received, stores and distributes supplies, and contacts suppliers to obtain and provide general information.
  • Identify social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of individuals and assist them to participate as appropriate and as dictated by their desires and person-centered plans.
  • Performs other duties as required.
