About The Position

Meherrin River Regional Jail is hiring a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide care for individuals in its custody. This is a night-shift position working 12-hour shifts in a correctional healthcare setting.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved practical nursing program.
• Active LPN license in Virginia or a multistate Nurse Licensure Compact license.
• Solid knowledge of nursing care principles and practices.
• Ability to recognize signs of mental illness, emotional distress, and substance use disorders.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy and administering PPD (TB skin) tests.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to incarcerated individuals.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Take vital signs, collect lab specimens, and record patient health data.
• Support sick call and assist providers with procedures.
• Administer medications and maintain accurate Medication Administration Record (MAR) documentation.
• Monitor patient conditions and promptly report changes.
• Conduct rounds and document patient progress.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols.
• Maintain medication security, including narcotics counts and accountability.
• Assist with patient transfers and complete required reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
