About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) working in the Horizon Clinics are responsible for the overall medical care of assigned adult clients. This includes providing basic nursing assessments, client and family education, diagnostic procedures, consultation with physicians, and carrying out doctors’ orders. The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, at the Landover Wellness Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. Compensation depends on experience.

Requirements

• Successfully complete a course of study that permits licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia.
• At least one year of experience providing nursing services as an LPN, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of community mental health and public health to provide advocacy and enhance clients’ treatment and access to community resources.
• Knowledge of nursing best practices.
• Knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, physical health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse.
• Knowledge of psychiatric and medical medications and treatments.
• Willingness and availability to work modified schedules, including weekends and holidays, as required.
• Ability to drive and possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall medical care to assigned adult clients.
• Deliver basic nursing assessments.
• Provide client and family education and diagnostic procedures.
• Consult with physicians and carry out doctors’ orders.
• Advocate for clients and support treatment and access to community resources.
• Travel to Horizon worksites as needed, transport clients, and provide services at other locations.
• Attend trainings and Horizon meetings, which may require travel to various Horizon sites.
• Participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training, including verbal de-escalation and physical skills techniques for use with consumers as needed.
