The practice of nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse is defined as performing tasks & responsibilities within the scope of supportive & restorative care; medication administration and specialized tasks under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse of licensed or otherwise legally authorized physician or dentist. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) participates in the application of the nursing process to an assigned group of patients, demonstrating behaviors that reflect scientific knowledge, judgment, and technical skills. Responsibilities include performing job duties under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN), administering approved skilled nursing care tasks and procedures, and participating in patient care conferences. LPNs in chronic outpatient hemodialysis settings have specific additional duties under direct RN supervision after completing approved training.
