Licensed Practical Nurse - Oncology
About The Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) provides direct and indirect patient care in a specialized Oncology unit at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the LPN supports cancer patient care, symptom management, and treatment support while promoting patient safety, comfort, quality outcomes, and a positive patient experience. This is a full-time night position with 12-hour shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving approximately 400,000 residents across central, western, and midcoast Maine through more than 40 primary and specialty care locations. Its system includes Central Maine Medical Center, a 250-bed regional referral hospital and home to the region’s only Cancer Care Center, as well as Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. Central Maine Healthcare also operates the Maine College of Health Professions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.
- IV certification and Blood Withdrawal (BW) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintenance of current certification.

Responsibilities
- Provide bedside care for oncology and hematology patients.
- Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and treatment side effects, including pain, nausea, and fatigue.
- Assist with medication administration, IV therapy, and blood draws.
- Support chemotherapy and infusion processes within scope of practice.
- Collaborate with registered nurses, physicians, and oncology care teams.
- Ensure patient safety, infection control, and protective precautions.
- Document care in EMR/EHR systems.
- Promptly communicate changes in a patient’s condition.
- Provide compassionate support to patients and families.
