This position is part of the Substance Use Recovery Team at Coffeewood Correctional Center. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include screening for sick call, administering medications, providing first aid and basic life support, maintaining communication with security and treatment staff, recording pertinent information into the medical record, and interacting with other departments as needed. The role also promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Nurses must be able to work assigned hours, days, and locations, and be available for coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
