This is a flexible staffing arrangement for Licensed Practical Nurses seeking additional hours, with a maximum average of 29 hours per week. LPNs provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include screening for sick call, administering medications, providing first aid and basic life support, maintaining communication with security and treatment staff, recording pertinent information in the medical record, and interacting with other departments as needed. The role promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Nurses must be able to work assigned hours, days, and locations, and be available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. Wage employment resets annually on May 1. Wage employees are limited to an average of 29 hours per week over the 12-month period and this position offers no state benefits.
