The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP) is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds, and services. Read more here RCHRP Phase two RCH first opened in 1862, is a vital referral centre and regional centre of excellence for trauma, critical care, cardiac care, maternity, neonatal intensive care and neurosurgery. When the full redevelopment is complete, the people of British Columbia will have increased access to cardiac, trauma, mental health, maternity and NICU services and beds. New Westminster is known for its stunning waterfront views along the Fraser River, located on the north side of the Fraser River bordering several municipalities in each direction (Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, and Delta), making it the centre of the Greater Vancouver region. Performs practical nursing duties such as assessing, plans, implementing, evaluating and documenting care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care and other outpatient procedures; assists with the admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation for patients undergoing oscopy, in accordance with established standards and protocols. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year recent relevant clinical experience in minor surgical procedures or other outpatient procedures and completion of relevant course work and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents practical nursing care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care and other outpatient procedures/consultations during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Assists with admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation duties for patients undergoing oscopy, in accordance with established standards and protocols.
  • Performs practical nursing duties during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Observes and monitors the patient's conditions during the procedures/consultations to ensure their safety and comfort; provides patient condition information and feedback to the supervisor and/or physician.
  • Documents the observations into the patient's record including treatment and other patient care information during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff, students and other members of the health care team by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures and general department procedures.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and assisting in maintaining standardized records.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
