Royal Columbian Hospital is conveniently located adjacent to the Sapperton SkyTrain station on the Expo Line, making it easily accessible by public transit for both patients and staff. The hospital is undergoing a multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment project (RCHRP) to increase its capacity, beds, and services. New Westminster, where the hospital is located, is known for its stunning waterfront views along the Fraser River and is centrally located in the Greater Vancouver region. In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Geriatric Nurse Clinician utilizes evidence-informed practice to provide consultation and clinical expertise related to acutely ill older adults who present to Emergency, who are admitted to medical/surgical areas, or who are referred to specialized clinics. The role involves role modeling direct care skills to staff and students, performing gerontological nursing assessments and ongoing evaluation of older adults with complex care needs, and providing information and education to staff and/or patients/families. The Nurse Clinician also participates in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities, performing duties with a unit, hospital, program and/or regional focus, and may be required to work at multiple sites across Fraser Health.
