About The Position

Assists the Student Health & Wellbeing Care clinical providers, nurses, and professional staff in a variety of complex or highly skilled paraprofessional nursing and clinical support functions. This role involves direct patient care, clinic support, occupational health assistance, and facility maintenance. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide safe, ethical, patient-centered, culturally congruent, and evidence-based care within their scope of practice. They will also perform administrative tasks to support clinic operations, assist with immunization processing, monitor the physical facility, and maintain LPN certification and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Two years of related experience as an LPN.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation.
  • Extensive knowledge of practical nursing procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of the human anatomy.
  • Ability to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients.
  • Ability to accurately record observations.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, ethical, patient-centered, culturally congruent, and evidence-based care within the scope of practice.
  • Organizes patient rooms for visit needs and ensures cleanliness of room before and after visit.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs and patient-reported signs and symptoms in the EMR, and places patients in rooms.
  • Manages the random drug screen process for the colleges, uploads results, and provides them to the requesting college and appropriate provider.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as answering patient telehealth and phone calls/emails, greeting patients, handling consent and immunization forms, processing patient payments, uploading records, and scheduling appointments.
  • Monitors clinic supply needs, informs the lead nurse, and assists with orders.
  • Supports the role of the Administrative Coordinator as needed.
  • Monitors emails for new students, graduates, and current students, responding within 24 hours on business days.
  • Assists with quality improvement projects and special projects as assigned by the Lead Nurse/Associate/Executive Director.
  • Uses computer software programs (e.g., Point N Click, Maxient, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel) to meet position responsibilities.
  • Assists with immunization document processing, evaluating student compliance with MUSC pre-matriculation and annual requirements, and following up with Administrative Coordinator to contact college compliance officers.
  • Responds to student emails regarding immunizations and assists with vaccine clinic events.
  • Monitors the safety, cleanliness, and effectiveness of the environment and equipment.
  • Informs the Lead Nurse/Associate Director of any unsafe practices, needed facility repairs, or new equipment.
  • Scans environment for needed clinic supplies, equipment, and office supplies and informs the Lead Nurse/Administrative Coordinator.
  • Maintains professionalism and promotes a culture of health and wellbeing for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Maintains LPN certification and seeks out needed training, e.g., BLS.
  • Performs other duties as required.
